Obscura Marlborough Blanc de Blancs

Obscura Marlborough Blanc de Blancs is a crisp, dry sparkling wine made from 100% Chardonnay in Marlborough, New Zealand. Key Details

  • Variety: 100% Chardonnay

  • Region: Marlborough, New Zealand

  • Alcohol: 13.5%

  • Flavor Profile: Bright lemon, green apple, orange blossom, and subtle brioche with a creamy mouthfeel and fine bubbles.

Obscura Marlborough Blanc de Blancs pairs exceptionally well with food due to its crisp acidity, vibrant citrus notes, and creamy texture. As a 100% Chardonnay sparkling wine, it cuts through rich textures and complements delicate flavors perfectly.

Ideal Food Pairings

  • Seafood & Shellfish: The absolute best pairing for this wine. The high acidity cuts through the richness of freshly shucked oysters, seared scallops, sashimi, or raw fish dishes like a classic ceviche.

  • Rich & Creamy Dishes: The effervescence acts as a palate cleanser against creamy profiles. Pair it with creamy pasta (like carbonara or fettuccine alfredo), mushroom risotto, or rich seafood chowders.

  • Fried Foods: A fantastic high-low pairing. The crispness cuts through grease beautifully. Try it with classic fish and chips, salt and pepper squid, or triple-cooked potato chips.

  • Soft & Creamy Cheeses: It sings alongside soft cheeses. Look for a ripe Triple Cream Brie, Camembert, or a fresh goat's cheese (chèvre).

  • Light Poultry: A simple roast chicken with herbs or a lemon-herb marinated turkey breast matches the weight and elegance of the wine without overpowering it.

Brimming with fresh, tangy flavours of ripe citrus, this perfectly pitched Waipara Sauvignon Blanc is drinking like a dream. A small portion of fruit was fermented in older oak which had added texture and complexity to the crisp, fruitful palate. Easy to love.

It is widely celebrated as an exceptional, budget-friendly alternative to Champagne, offering serious structural complexity for a fraction of the price.

History & Significance

The name "1531" pays homage to the historic year that Benedictine monks at the Saint Hilaire monastery in Limoux discovered how to create sparkling wine—pre-dating the famous Champagne developments by Dom Pérignon. Food Pairings

This Crémant serves as a fantastic aperitif. It pairs elegantly alongside: [1]
